Get ready to dig into creativity! The Beaufort County Library System is excited to announce the launch of our 2026 Bookmark Contest, the official kickoff to this year’s Summer Reading Program.

Our 2026 theme, “Unearth a Story,” invites readers and artists of all ages to explore the fascinating worlds of dinosaurs, archaeology, and paleontology. Whether you’re inspired by towering T. rex skeletons, mysterious fossils buried deep underground, or the thrill of discovering ancient artifacts, this is your chance to bring those ideas to life.

How It Works

Participants will create an original bookmark design inspired by the Unearth a Story theme. Four winners will be selected — one from each age group:

  • Early Elementary

  • Tween

  • Teen

  • Adult

Each winning design will be professionally printed on thousands of bookmarks to be distributed at our libraries during Summer Reading. Winners will also receive prizes (and, of course, bragging rights!).

Important Dates

  • March 2, 2026: Grab your bookmark template online in English or Spanish, or pick one up at any library location!

  • March 31, 2026: All entries must be submitted.

Start Imagining!

Think fossils, excavation sites, ancient creatures, field journals, magnifying glasses, rock layers, discovery, and adventure. What story is waiting to be unearthed in your imagination?

We can’t wait to see how our community brings this year’s theme to life. Sharpen your pencils, gather your markers, and get ready to dig deep — your design could be in the hands of readers all summer long!
