October Fun at the Library
The days are getting shorter. The temperature is cooling off. Football is on the TV. We’ve entered the BER months! For families, the BER months mean scouts, fall sports, dance classes, holidays, chili cook-offs, festivals, and family traditions!
For library life, October means cardigans, pumpkins, and of course, Halloween! Whether you are into spooky books like Stephen King’s The Shining or The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, movies like Halloween or It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, or ghost stories local to South Carolina - Beaufort County Library has you covered! We also have classics like Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman or Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. YA readers – worry not! You can get your haunting fix by listening to The Diviners series by Libba Bray or delving into a murder mystery by Maureen Johnson. We cannot leave out Bunnicula by James Howe or the infamous Mary Downing Hahn for our elementary school readers. Practice your trick-or-treating skills with How Do Dinosaurs Say Trick-or-Treat by Jane Yolen or spread Halloween cheer with Pick A Pumpkin by Patricia Toht. Hoopla readers and listeners, our digital library has you covered, too! Whether it’s family-friendly fun, murder mysteries, or music for your Halloween shenanigans, Hoopla will help make the vibes immaculate!
Whether you start celebrating right after the summer holidays or you wait for cooler weather, we have something for everyone! Still need some inspiration to help you get into the season?! Look at these events!
