New books are great, but new books that read to you are even better! We love books of all kinds—whether they are hardcover, paperback, audiobooks, or Wonderbooks. We ensure that our patrons have access to a variety of options, including our extensive collection of Wonderbooks.

Why Wonderbooks?

Wonderbooks read aloud with a built-in speaker. They can help hesitant readers feel more confident, and help children who are starting to read learn words, sentence structure, and phonics. These books are fun for the confident reader, too, as they can listen to them anywhere, anytime. They are popular with our Read with a Therapy dog group, as they can read to the children and the dogs.

These books allow readers to both see and hear the words simultaneously. Seeing and hearing the words can strengthen early literacy through various forms of engagement.

Wonderbooks also have a learning mode. After each story, readers can switch to a narrator-led Q-and-A session that uses open-ended questions to test comprehension and foster critical thinking.

These books can also be helpful to those who may struggle with reading or visual impairments, as well as bilingual speakers.

They are useful for encouraging learning, word pronunciation, sentence structure, and reading.

Where do we house our collections?

Wonderbooks are available at all our library locations, including Bookmobiles. If you can’t find a title that you would like to read at your library, like much of our collection, Wonderbooks can come to your library. Patrons can put Wonderbooks on hold and have them delivered to their preferred branch.

Each branch is constantly adding to its Wonderbooks collection—check for new titles on your next visit.

If you don’t know where they are located, no worries! You can always ask our staff, and they will show you where our Wonderbooks are. We are always delighted when our patrons love the collection as much as we do!
