There are some people who are “forced” to read female-centered classics in high school like "Wuthering Heights," "Jane Eyre," "Tess of the d'Urbervilles," and "Pride and Prejudice," and hate it. Then there are those of us who have a life-changing trip to Great Britain when we're 16 and eventually become a librarian.
Perhaps you’ve been swept up by the “Wuthering Heights” movie craze and want to dive deeper into the world of the Brontë sisters. Maybe you enjoy a “cuppa” tea as you travel to the misty Moors of your mind, imagining there’s a Mr. Darcy waiting at a gazebo in the distance. If I’m speaking your language, might I suggest one of the titles from our catalog of popular British female authors? This list includes works of fiction by these novelists, but you’ll also find a selection of nonfiction titles that take a closer look at the secret lives of some of your favorite writers. You might discover that, oftentimes, their real-life stories were just as fascinating as the worlds they created on paper.
Just in time for Women’s History Month, here’s a book list for the young, the old, and the Anglophile!
