We are happy to announce that our five branch libraries now offer new “Lucky Day” collections that provide Beaufort County readers a chance to get their hands on hot new releases, best-sellers and popular books that typically have long hold times.
If it’s on the shelf, it’s yours to check out—no holds, no waiting!

The Beaufort County School District and the Beaufort County Library system, in a continuation of their dynamic partnership, announce the Gift of Reading program, a new initiative that aims to provide Beaufort County’s youngest students with new and enjoyable books to kick-start their home library.
The new program was initiated thanks to the generosity of a local couple seeking to provide books that Beaufort County’s children can keep at home and that will, ultimately, help to develop a child’s lifelong love of reading.

All library branches will be closed Monday, December 23, Tuesday, December 24, and Wednesday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday. All branches will resume regular hours on Thursday, December 26.

The Beaufort County Library system is fortunate to have not one, not two, but three Friends of the Library groups and the Public Library Foundation of Beaufort County.
The Friends and the Foundation are all-volunteer groups dedicated to supporting the work and supplementing the resources of the Library system.
The Friends and the Foundation have generously supported library programs such as the summer reading program (Summer @ Your Library), a new Bookmobile, staff scholarships, book collections, online resources, library programs, storytimes, and so much more.
Following our November 1st launch of a new auto-renewal feature, library staff has confirmed the following:
Items checked out PRIOR TO NOVEMBER 1 will NOT auto-renew.If an item was checked out on October 31 or prior, customers will continue to receive auto-renewal emails such as “MAX RENEWALS REACHED” (even though the item has 1-2 renewals left). Items checked out prior to October 31 must be renewed online or by library staff. These items will not auto-renew. Again, this is only for items that were checked out before Nov 1.

The Beaufort County Library System is proud to announce that it is a recipient of a 2019 Read to Succeed Summer Camps Book Award grant.
Read to Succeed legislation was created in 2015 to address the literacy needs of South Carolina students, and the summer camps provide an intervention system for students who may be struggling to read at grade level. The book award helps to put more books in the hands of reluctant readers by providing curated collections of high interest paperbacks to the selected applicants.

Beaufort County residents can easily turn their documents digital!
All Beaufort County Library branches offer complimentary use of BookScan stations. These self-service stations allow users to scan documents, photos, books, and other items. (The units even TRANSLATE documents!)
Users can save scans to a USB drive or save as JPEGs, PDFs, or other file types. From the same screen, documents can be emailed or faxed to wherever they need to go within the United States.
