Who Can Play?
Everyone - adults, teens, and children! If you are reading to your child or toddler, they can play too.
How does the game work?
Pick up a game board at the library or print one from our website (available June 1).
For every day that you read (or are read to) for at least 20 minutes, mark off a square on the game board.
Each time you reach a star on the game board, bring in your card to the library to get a prize (as supplies last).
When you finish all 36 days of reading, bring in your game board as that will become your Grand Prize Entry Form.
How do I participate?
Just visit any Beaufort County Library branch or Bookmobile to pick up a game board, or you can print one from our web page starting June 1.
(All Beaufort County School District students and employees will receive a printed game board prior to summer break.)
What do the stars on the game board mean?
When you get to a star, that means you've earned a prize! Each time you mark off a square with a star (there are 3 stars total), bring in your game board to collect a new prize (as supplies last). When you complete your last star, you've finished the game - but it's not over yet. Submit your card to any library service desk as your completed card will serve as your grand prize entry form.
Those who complete all 36-days of reading should submit their finished game board to any Beaufort County Library staff member. On the game board, please indicate one Grand Prize bundle you want to be entered to win. (Grand Prize bundles are numbered; all options will be available online and at library service desks during the program.)
Do I need to register or create an account?
No! This year's summer program is all paper-based.
Do I need to come to the Library on Saturday, June 1st?
No, you can pick up a game board after June 1; however, please note that the Summer @ Your Library program concludes on July 31.
Do I need to come in for each star prize or can I collect them all at once?
You can wait to collect your star prizes towards the end of the program but please note that game board prizes are given out while supplies last. We encourage participants to visit the library to collect their prizes as they progress on the game board. We regret that we cannot provide prizes after supplies run out.
The program kicks off on Saturday, June 1 and ends July 31. Bring your finished game board to any Beaufort County Library location by July 31 for a chance to win one of many great grand prize packages!
Will there be summer events at the library?
Definitely! Stay tuned to our Events Calendar for a current listing. Also, subscribe to our news so you are notified when we post our upcoming events.
Where can I find summer reading books?
Check out our Reading Lists page where you can easily locate and place on hold the 2019-2020 SC Book Award Nominees.
Do I need a library card?
While it isn't necessary to have a library card, we highly recommend obtaining one to have full access to all the services of the library. Library cards are free to Beaufort County residents, property owners, students, and active-duty military. Library card applications are available at all library service desks. If you're applying for a library card, please be sure to bring a current photo ID plus proof of residency (utility bill, recent mail, property tax receipt, etc.). Children ages 4 and older can receive their very own card with their parent/guardian present at time of registration.
