Celebrate the Gullah/Geechee Living Legacy on Historic St. Helena Island, SC at the Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festival
(15 July 2017, St. Helena Island, SC, Gullah/Geechee Nation) "Fa We Ancestas" is the theme of the 2017 "Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festival™." This festival began on historic St. Helena Island, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation in 2005 and has since traveled to numerous cities of the Gullah/Geechee Nation as well as to the Bahamas. This year's return to St. Helena Island will be a celebration of the rich living culture of the island and Beaufort County.

Salve Regina University Professor Dr. Jon Marcoux returns to discuss his ongoing attempts to incorporate historical research, LiDAR mapping, and archaeological field work to locate a Yamasee War (1715-1717) battle site. Co-sponsor: Beaufort Chap., ASSC.

On August 21, 2017, millions of people across the United States will see nature's most wondrous spectacle — a total eclipse of the Sun. Here in Beaufort, we will have the opportunity to witness up to 98% coverage of the Sun – a partial solar eclipse. We invite you to visit the Beaufort Branch library to celebrate and learn about this astronomical event. *All program attendees will receive complimentary viewing glasses designed to protect your eyes while observing the eclipse. *Eclipse glasses will also be available while supplies last from August 17th-August 21st during normal operating hours.
