Every Month is Black History Month

Officially, today is the last day of "Black History Month." However, every month is Black History Month for the BDC and for AT&T. The BDC makes an effort to interweave posts about all our native sons and daughters, regardless of race throughout the year. Our holdings contain historical and cultural materials from the community at large, in all its wonderful diversity, which we share all year long. Similarly, AT&T celebrates the contributions of African Americans all year long with its South Carolina African American History Calendar website.Read More...

Black and Indian Patriots of the American Revolution

Since the mid-1980s, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has supported a project to identify the names of African Americans, Native Americans, and individuals of mixed heritage who supported the American struggle for independence from Great Britain during the American Revolution. In 2001 the DAR published African American and American Indian Patriots of the Revolutionary War. There have been several more editions and revisions consisting of hundreds of more pages and names of heretofore unknown patriots.Read More...
