Book Break

Book Break returns to the Community Room at the Hilton Head Library on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 for its eleventh consecutive season. The Friends of the Hilton Head Library present this very popular series of six book reviews and discussions. Each session starts promptly at noon and ends at 1:00. Doors open at 11:00 with the distribution of free tickets. Coffee, tea and cookies are served at 11:30. Seating is limited to the first 140, so come early and bring a sandwich if you wish. Parking is limited, but overflow parking space is available at Hawthorne Inn parking area, connected to the library by a paved walkway. Carpooling is a good option.

Our program features a group of informed and interesting speakers, and the range of topics covered in the books they will discuss is quite broad.

January 20th: James Boldrick will review T. Boone Pickens' The First Billion is the Hardest: Reflections on a Life of Comebacks and America's Energy Future; published in 2008

January 27th: Barry Lowes will review Miyoku Chu's Songbird Journeys: Four Seasons in the Lives of Migratory Birds; published in 2006

February 3rd: Dr. Julius Scott will review John Hope Franklin's Mirror to America: The Autobiography of John Hope Franklin;published in 2005

February 10th: Patricia Whitmore Fox will review Alice Munro's Friend of My Youth: Stories; published in 1990

February 17th: Patricia Friedman will review Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals; (2006)

February 24th: Dr. Norman Winkler will review George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia; published in 1938
