“The Civil War,” the groundbreaking documentary series by Ken Burns, will be screened over five consecutive Saturday afternoons as the Beaufort County Library system commemorates the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War through its “One County Reads One War” initiative.

Courtesy of Penn Center, the St Helena Branch Library will host the Bostick Mini Quilt Display from October 1st-31st.  These quilts are examples of the quilts used during the Underground Railroad that provided messages for Harriet Tubman who was traveling in the region to take escaped slaves safely to the North.  Dr.

The Bluffton Library Rug Hooking Group, a group of rug hooking enthusiasts, is open to all experience levels of rug hooking crafters. Start a new project or finish an old one, and make new friends.  Debra Walland, owner of Seaside Hooking and member of the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists will facilitate the group.

Two of South Carolina's most prominent archaeologists, Dr. Jon Leader and Dr. Eric Poplin, will be on hand to identify your personal mystery artifacts. Anyone owning an artifact with an unknown provenance, date of origin, or description is invited to bring it for identification. Co-sponsored by Hilton Head Chapter of the Archaeology Society of SC and Beaufort County Planning Department in honor of Archaeology Month 2013. Free.  Come get in-person homework help at the library in all subject areas. Homework Center uses trained volunteers and the services of Brainfuse to assist the students with their homework needs. Students will have time to take a break and have a snack, provided courtesy of the Friends of the Beaufort Library. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
