Join us each week for short stories, rhymes, and activities that are designed to entertain little ones, ages 0-3, as we introduce skill sets for reading readiness. The same program is presented on Mondays and Wednesdays, so pick the day that fits your schedule.

 Beaufort Branch Library will present Death and the Civil War, a documentary by acclaimed director Ric Burns. Originally presented on PBS' American Experience, the film explores the change in military practicesand in the American psyche , as the nation witnessed death on a scale never before seen. Program in intended for adult audiences.

Courtesy of Penn Center, the St Helena Branch Library will host the Bostick Mini Quilt Display from October 1st-31st.  These quilts are examples of the quilts used during the Underground Railroad that provided messages for Harriet Tubman who was traveling in the region to take escaped slaves safely to the North.  Dr.

 The Civil War left thousands of women mourning the loss of their husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers. Actress Kim Poovey brings their experiences to life through storytelling, Victorian mourning attire, and displays of traditional mourning items. Program is intended for adult audiences.

This book club for boys ages 6 and above is designed to get reluctant readers to love books, and reading. Each week we will learn all about a new book, or book series. The boys will have fun  sharing activities, snacks, and games/quizzes related to the book(s) of the week.

This month the Junior Bookclub will be reading books about the Civil War. The library has dozens of great adventure stories set during the Civil War. Read one of your favorites or try one of our recommendations.

 Members meet to share recipes, food and conversation and everyone is welcome. Each month features a themed potluck. October's theme is Oktoberfest! Members present items that fit within the theme. Books, recipes, food and memories are shared. Join us if you would like to prepare and then share your own dish. Contact 255-6540 for more information.
