Creative quilt makers designed patterns that contained messages and directions that slaves used to help them reach safety and freedom along the Underground Railroad. Join us as we hear the story of The Patchwork Path and discover the hidden messages in the quilts. We’ll complete paper quilt squares using the same designs and patterns.

The Arsenal

This free presentation will focus on its Civil War exploits in over a dozen military engagements. Learn about the Civil War military engagements fought by one of the nation’s oldest military units, the BVA, in their headquarters building, the Arsenal. This lecture is co-sponsored with the Greater Beaufort Chamber of Commerce and the Humanities Council of South Carolina.  The Arsenal is located at 713 Craven Street in Beaufort. Details: 255-6468
